Chris A. Jones, Ph.D.

CIO, Maximo FO

“There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely games”.

– Attributed to Ernest Hemingway

Chris Jones is CIO of Maximo Capital, the Texas-based family office of Rafael Martinez. Maximo invests in motorsports, teams, media, racetracks, and properties including the rapid growth of family-friendly RAFA Racing Clubs (See www.rafaracing.club). It also helps emerging racers and startups wanting to partner with Maximo to scale within the motorsports ecosystem.

In this role, Chris brings a passion for authentic motorsports, a top network and 20+ years of global commercial development experience, venture investing, technology innovation, and corporate advisory in the U.S. and Europe. He has a track-record of finding and investing in technologies early-on, returning profits, and adding critical value to the companies and funds he advises. For almost a decade, Chris served as managing partner of a successful captive venture fund for an integrated hospital system. He didn’t just manage this function—he created it, expanding the model across hospital networks by co-founding a ventures group uniting 50+ hospital systems with venture funds into a national syndicate. In addition to English and some French and Spanish, he speaks an important language for cross-sector investing—the language of bringing the right people together. He has advised a Luxembourg multi-family office that included an F1 champion, helped design venture strategies for motorsports technologies, and even spent time in the Middle East bringing US- and British media libraries to the G.C.C.—a testament to his global reach and versatility.

Some investors write checks. Chris builds markets. With high profile transactional and growth experience across the US and Europe, he has spent his career scaling breakthrough innovations across some of the world’s most complex, highly regulated industries—from healthcare and life sciences to motorsports, AI, defense, and beyond, all while personally investing in the companies shaping the future. Recent engagements include corporate advisory for BioCopy AG, a Swiss company focused on curing cancer where AI meets drug discovery. Here Chris sourced key partners and funds who can bring the company swiftly to U.S. markets. Another passion is Rothspeed (creator of “SplitRay”), an American reimagined supercar company, where Chris serves as company chairman. Showcased at SEMA, Rothspeed is building entirely new 800hp / 800Nm high performance custom cars with carbon fiber bodies that are paired with race tracks and car-themed properties. In linking all these themes together, motorsports, healthcare and defense tech are all activities that demand top coordination and excellence.

His expertise is backed by a doctorate from Oxford University, honors from the University of Michigan – Ann Arbor, post-doctoral training from University College London and Johns Hopkins University, executive training at Harvard University, and a credential in Corporate Governance from The Wharton School, proving his ability to apply cross-discipline expertise and operate at the highest strategic levels. Chris also chairs the Oxbridge Family Offices Network which raises scholarships for Oxbridge students in need.

When not connecting one family to another, Chris is restoring classic cars whose engineers foresaw innovations we still use today—a perfect analogy for his investment style: identifying opportunities and sourcing the influencers needed years before the market realizes their full potential.
